My values and work philosophy

Lessons I've learned through the years and values that guide the way I approach design problems.
Stay curious
"The more you learn, the more you see". By constantly expanding my knowledge base, I can recognize and incorporate new modes of thinking into my designs.
Always have a plan
Laying out my approach early helps with buy-in and process streamlining.
Understand the 'why'
I make sure to fully understand the context and business need behind the project before I start.
Lay good foundations
No matter what the scope of the project is, I strive to follow good process to avoid inefficiencies.
Validate the design
A design's full value cannot be evaluated without metrics so its always important to look at the numbers.

Outside of work

Sharing a little of what I do to be inspired, remain active and recharge my batteries.
Staying Inspired
Currently trying to master my 4th and 5th language, German and Japanese. By interacting with various media in these languages as I learn, I've come to appreciate how other cultures approach design as well.
Remaining Active
I enjoy long distance running, diving and a good gym session. All these activities give me the space to reflect and think. You'd be surprised at how many ideas have come to me mid-run or dive!
Recharging batteries
To relax I often take on non-digital design projects - activities like woodworking, lino-cut printing, pottery and leatherwork. It allows me to remain creative while simultaneously re-charging my digital design brain.
